I played around with the trial version of QuickBooks 2009 for Mac and am now settling in with QuickBooks 2010 for Mac. Overall, QuickBooks 2010 is a good product, and it is oh so much more polished than Quicken Essentials 2010 for Mac. Maybe the QuickBooks Mac team can go help out the Quicken Mac team (they need all the help they can get!). A financial application that also manages your company's bank accounts and investments, QuickBooks 2010 runs on both PC and Mac platforms. QuickBooks 2010 for Mac 2010 is compatible with any Mac containing an Intel processor and running OS X v10.5.7 or later. The application is also compatible with OS X v10.7, also known as Mountain Lion, but QuickBooks' manufacturer Intuit recommends you purchase and use the latest version of QuickBooks if running Mountain Lion.
Mountain Lion
If your Mac is running Mountain Lion, not all of QuickBooks 2010 for Mac's features will work properly and you may experience the application closing unexpectedly. You may also experience errors while using QuickBooks 2010 including errors that may cause the application to freeze, not save your work and even freeze your computer. QuickBooks 2010 for Mac was developed for versions of OS X that was released before Mountain Lion.
Current QuickBooks Version
The most current version of QuickBooks is available directly from Intuit and authorized Intuit resellers. The software is also available from office supply, computer, electronics and retail superstores as well as online outlets that sell software and financial packages.
Mac PPC Platform
QuickBooks 2010 for Mac is not compatible with Macs running on a PPC platform – non-Intel models. PPC models are compatible with QuickBooks 2009 and earlier versions of QuickBooks for Mac. If you attempt to install QuickBooks 2010 for Mac on your PPC model Mac, the application's installation wizard will stop the process and inform you that the application is not compatible.
Other System Requirements
QuickBooks 2010 for Mac also requires 512MB of RAM, 160MB of free hard drive space, a CD-ROM drive for the installation disc and a 100 percent Mac-compatible printer for printing checks, invoices, statements and related documents. If downloading the application from the Intuit website, your Mac needs a high-speed Internet connection and Safari 2.0 or higher, or a similar Internet browser.
